HIDDEN LEGACY - The Life and Art of Alexander Colville Gordon

I first stumbled across the name Alexander Gordon while conducting research for my first book The Pioneers of British Tattooing (Volume 1)

Very little was known about his life, or indeed his forty year tattoo career which was spent in Chatham, Aldershot and London, spanning the Victorian, Edwardian and Interwar years of the early twentieth century.

On the seventy-fifth anniversary of Alec Gordon's death in 1950, I began to write this book. I am now able to share my findings with you and finally add his name to the timeline of Britian's pioneering tattoo artists.

This book traces Alec Gordon's entry into tattooing, follows his journey from Arizona to London, and documents his incredible career.

His legacy - preserved in surviving examples of his art - is proudly presented within the pages of the book, courtesy of the world's leading collectors and museums.
